Whatever Trump paid in taxes must it have been all right because he is in the White House and not in prison?

All of you HATERS need to try again. Sorry.

I'm not sure what you are asking here.  Being voted into the White House, filing tax returns, and prison sentences are all separate issues for me.  Nixon was impeached and then pardoned by Ford.  If it had been a regular Joe Schmo who broke into someone's office and was caught, he would have done jail time.  Even if someone doesn't pay their taxes, unless they owe a significant amount, purposefully chose not to pay, and refuses to make reparations, they rarely are sent to prison.

  • SO calling anyone who dares to question a HATER makes it all go away does it?

Not sure how it all works in the states, but here if you don't pay enough tax then they send you a bill and you pay it.. a LOT of businesses are expert at avoiding paying tax.. so that doesn't mean they didn't do wrong, just that they get away with it...exploiting loopholes etc.. MANY don't even get to the stage where they are told they have underpaid if their accountants have been inventive and creative enough to have not declared everything...  Very few people get sent to prison for it..

SO just being logical here.. LOTS of people underpay tax, even more businesses do so.... yes, it's technically a crime .. but almost no one gets imprisoned... so the fact that Trump hasn't been imprisoned.. yet.. is no indicator that he has either paid enough or not committed a crime.

Just saying.. and call me a hater if you wish but sorry that's just logic and fact I am throwin out here... calling people a hater doesn't change that I am afraid

Avoiding tax though loopholes isn't wrong.

Trump didn't evade tax. He will have avoided it somewhat as any businessman has to do to remain competitive.

How do I know this? Because if he had it would have come out already. The deep state would have leaked his tax returns during the campaign. The establishment would have gone over everything with a fine tooth comb trying to find something. Of course they looked and they couldn't find anything!!! So they resort to vague bullsh*t conspiracy theories about shadowy Russian interests, all without evidence. This post was edited by Zeitgeist at March 16, 2017 12:45 AM MDT

  • Quote, "Avoiding tax though loopholes isn't wrong."  - really??? In most people's book it is.. morally... it's very wrong as avoiding taxes means less for the things it's needed for, less for those who need services paid for by taxes.. Sorry avoiding tax through loopholes IS wrong..  But I think you were meaning it's not illegal?
Actually it can be.. we've had a case here where people used a loop hole to avoid tax and now they are being asked to pay it back.. not doing so would be illegal.. sooo. yea it can be illegal too..

Avoiding tax is arguably morally corrupt.. those who can most afford it taking from those who can least.. just saying...

It would have come out already.. well the thing is logically that's not how it works.. things come out when they come out.. until then there are often rumours.. but... until it's officially investigated then it's neither proven or disproven.. that's the way of the world..

Look at organisations such as google.. they avoided paying tax in many of the countries they were in... and registered in Ireland where they were given massive tax concessions... this was later proven illegal..   Look at the footballers and celebs in the UK who avoided tax through loopholes.. before it came out they weren't investigated.. so this is just logic... until one is investigated nothing is proven either way.

The establishment historically is slow to act...and often doesn't act until somethng is leaked.. its how it is I am afraid...many businessmen get away with things for a long time...

I am not a fan of conspiracy theories as you know but logically speaking that includes when right wing start banging on about lefty conspiracies.. its all universally nuts and illogical..

re Trump the sane answer is... until he publishes people wont know..and the tax collection service wont know until they investigate.. assuming they have already is illogical.

And let's face it.. Trump's hardly someone to believe on anything... he is a proven liar who changes what he says regularly... not sure i'd be wanting to stick my neck out and say he's honest.

No, I'm saying it's not morally wrong. Taxes in the modern world are too high. It's abusive. It's designed to suppress the economy to create poverty so the prince of darkness can dominate everyone. If they just slashed taxes we would see massive renaissance. People who can't see that, just don't understand economics.

Income taxes shouldn't even exist. The only ethical forms of taxation are the ones on voluntary transactions that we choose to make. Taxing someone's income is just a partial enslavement.

Google is part of the establishment so naturally what they do will be swept under the rug. Trump is an enemy of the establishment and if they had any dirt they would use it.

The establishment is not slow to anything. It's viciously efficient. It pretends to be incompetent because the alternative is to look corrupt.

I never said the tax collection service had already investigated. I mean CIA has already investigated. Shadowy agencies that we don't even know about have already investigated. The establishment didn't want Trump to be president and did everything they could to prevent it. If they had ammunition they would have used it already.

Your post shows breathtaking naivety of how the world really works.

  • Well if you don't think that effectively cheating and then denying the money that would help others, and which would ultimately help the country, eg by creating a better educated workforce etc is wrong then all I can say is that we seriously disagree.  I do think that part of this whole thing is about standards... there seem way lower standards abounding here...  looking in is an interesting hobby, one learns much.

You say my post shows naivety.. I felt the same re yours.. for example while we may all like to ignore the fact that there will always be those who cannot work and thus cannot provide for family, kids etc.. the fact is that can happen...and it can happen to many of us when we are least expecting it...  if we couldn't work we'd still want our kids to get an education... and investing in education and health are an investment in the country.. lol who'd want a country full of rich selfish whatsits... lol can you imagine how hideous and backstabbing a society that would be :P  Anyway I digress.. we in the UK pay way higher taxes thn you do.. we rarely complain because our standards are arguably different..we believe in investing in people, their health, their education and their wellbeing, we believe those who genuinely cannot work are deserving of help too... The world you describe almost sounds like the middle ages where the poor died and the rich were just selfish arrogant whastits.. this was empire days stuff... Some of us believe we have evolved and become more civilised since then.. your model seems almost a backward step I feel.

Trump has a lot of influence and AMerica is, sadly, not a country immune from corruption...

You incorrectly used the phrase "isn't wrong," Zeitgeist. It isn't illegal; that is why they are loopholes. There are holes in the law. Wrong is a moral judgement. A lot of people would judge it morally wrong. I leave it to the individual to wrestle with his own conscience on that. As for vague bullsh*t conspiracy theories , I could point to Trump making claims about Obama not being born in the United States, Obama bugging his phones, and a lot of other things. All without evidence.

Wrong is a moral judgement. Some consider that the government takes our money out of income as wrong in general.  I think anyone who does not file their 1040 in the legal required manner to pay the least amount in taxes it just silly. Having a business loss carry over to another year is not a loophole. It is part of the tax code. I have used it myself. If I want to donate my money to the poor there are plenty of charities that I believe handle their (my) money much more efficiently than the government.

We now know the real concern was never how much he paid in taxes but if we could see a Russian connection within them. Have we found one?

  • well sure but where a person's actions and behaviour can potentially cause a great deal of damage it's important to say to and to be aware of it.. people need to be well informed. All the more so in this case as the man's a proven liar...so the people really ought to know This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at March 15, 2017 4:23 PM MDT

Exactly. We all file our taxes in the way that makes us owe the least tax. As long as we are filling accurately it is all good. To file any other way is stupid.

Thanks for clearing up what he was saying.  It really wasn't clear to me.  The fact is, if Trump's return was wrong, he would have been audited.  For all we know, he was and everything was resolved.

I knew there was a concern about his Russian connection before the election.  Harry Reid brought it up with Comey.  In your OP, it looks like you were just talking about the old return that was released.  Sorry if I misunderstood.

That and to have the standard line of Time paid x% income tax rate which is lower than the #% of the Secretary who works for him.
I would never release tax returns because it is just a witch hunt to use against you.

I think it's rare that any super wealthy individual actually goes to jail over tax issues.  If it is a serious violation, they just pay up and be done with it.
