If that's what it takes to prevent chimpanzees from being tortured in research labs to ensure cosmetics used by women are safe, then ABSOLUTELY YES.

The cosmetic safety is the argument proposed by a MEDICAL DOCTOR justifying chimpanzees being tortured. He said his wife's make-up was more important.

This MORON is a MEDICAL DOCTOR who took the Hippocratic Oath. Civilized people do NOT torture animals for ANY research reason. PERIOD.

Not all doctors are nice people. Witness Dr. Mengele.

  • It might be more appropriate to dispense with fatuous cosmetics.

NO a chimp is not a person. They are animals. They should not be mistreated.  There are laws for mistreatment of animals already. Just enforce the laws we have already on the books.

Well, If I understand it correctly, it's not about declaring him to be a person.  Rather, it's about treating that chimpanzee as a person in so far as having certain legal rights that a real person has.

In contract law, I can own and animal and enter into a binding contract to sell its heir.

I just don't expect the court to go there.

It caught my eye tom. I think many humans are not treated as persons. It would be interesting if a chimpanzee were treated better. Wouldn't it? Thank you for your reply and Happy Saturday! :)

I suspect that some animals in America are treated generally better than some humans anywhere.

But at the moment, legally it is a gift rather than a right.

I studied some law, and part of the course work was adjucating actual cases and then comparing them to the actual rulings of the judges who heard them.

It gave me a sense of how judges use the rule of law to come up with the law of the case. This post was edited by tom jackson at March 18, 2017 10:56 AM MDT
