Discussion»Questions»Communication» Ever been wiretapped? Is there a clicking noise that lets you know you are being recorded? Or is that just in the movies?
Of course you do O. Your desire to be sarcastic rather than helpful or informative overwhelms me with such joy. I can't tell you how much I appreciate you. So I won't.

I had an answering machine years ago that had a record button on it when that I could hit when someone was giving me long explanation that I could not simply write down the highlights of.
Once I hit that button, it sounded a very loud annoying beep that could not be ignored since there were legal ramifications for taping conversations without letting the other person know you were doing it.
I assume that since wiretapping requires legal authorization, there is not warning to the target that he is being wiretapped.
I agree---I think I've only done that recording thing once in my lifetime. I don't keep up with the technology.
But the technology, if provided to the general public, would need to be in accordance with the current laws---unless of course you are someone like a Russian spy.
Originally, when your phone was tapped, you would not get the volume that you normally got. Then as technology progressed, there as a pickup that could just lay under your phone, or behind if it was a wall mount, that did not affect the volume to any extent. It was illegal to use these unless you told the other person on the phone that you were recording it. Now, you hear nothing and you do not know if your phone is tapped. (but its still illegal unless ordered by the court)
