I've given serious thought to emigrating to New Zealand. Canada would also be nice, but too cold.

  • Maine or Alaska looks about ideal.

  • You like the extreme cold?

  • Cold doesn't bother me at all.  Heat and humidity does.  I enjoy the wilderness and winter very much.

  • Out here, it gets hot but hardly any humidity.

Sounds like Adelaide, Australia (my home town). Temperatures in excess of 105 degrees in summer are not uncommon, but it's a dry heat. Mediterranean climate - never rains in summer, never stops raining in winter (we don't get snow).

  • Does sound very familiar indeed!

  • Yeah I did like that when I was out there.   I missed my snowshoeing, hunting, and ice fishing though.   I liked Cali on a few things but there was something missing for me.
LA area was the first time I was in a  city where I said  " yeah I might be able to do this" though.

My ex and I had plans on moving to California. It seemed like a nice choice being a gay couple. Enjoying the outside without wearing too much of clothing and so on. Ahem.  This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at March 27, 2017 5:47 PM MDT

We did find a nice location too, within her pocket size for what we demanded. Ahem. It seemed like a lovely place. :-)

We vacation there every year. I live about an hour inland from there. It's very lovely.

  • I wouldn't want to live in any state other than California. If I live in the U.S., then I'm living in California.

As for other countries, I wouldn't mind living in Australia, Spain, Italy, or Japan :) This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at March 28, 2017 12:53 AM MDT

  • Hi Rooster,
    I have loved New Mexico...
Also, I find California, the whole state, one of the most fascinating and beautiful places on Earth. My hesitation is that I am clearly not the first person to think of that, and prefer smaller populations along with lower cost of living!

This is the Mabel Dodge Luhan House in Taos...
