Hi RosieG, Now that I am old I have been around THAT vicious block all too often; so first I defend the other friend and try to change the subject. If that does not work, I say something like; "I don't want to hear it," and then leave or escort the gossiper out of my home.
I don't listen either. I have no patience for folks like that. Also you have to remember if they badmouth others they will badmouth you too! Thank you for your reply Virginia and Happy Thursday! :)
I lost one friend by refusing to agree with her when she was ragging on a mutual friend. I told her I wouldn't discuss it with her, she hung up the phone and I've never heard from her again.
That's not a type of friend you want in your life anyways. If she had common sense she would have realized by you not engaging in badmouthing your mutual friend that you would do the same for her if people were bad mouthing her.
You think you know someone and when you find out you didn't it can be quite a shock. You wonder if there signs throughout the years that just didn't connect! Thank you for your reply Yogafan and Happy Friday! :)
Depends, if they're flat out lying or gossiping about our mutual friend I will passionately defend our mutual friend who's not there to defend them self...however, if they're privately venting to me alone about being irritated with our mutual friend over something silly, I just let them vent their frustration because we all at times just need to vent how irritated we are to someone we truly trust.
That makes good sense. Thank you for your reply Redsox and Happy Thursday! Do you live in Boston? I lived in east Acton for 5 years decades ago. Am a Boston Bruins, Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan to this day! :)
My dad grew up in East Boston, he moved us "to the country"lol (a small town north of Boston) when we were little, I still live fairly close to Boston now(about a 40 minute drive to get there. I love that you love the Bruins, Red Sox and especially the Patriots!!! Not many people on-line like the Pats because we're so good....they don't realize that we as devoted Pats fans suffered for decades as a losing team prior to Tom Brady....same goes for the Red Sox and Bruins!! :)
Precisely! My son was born in West Concord at Emerson Hospital and when we moved to California (where we had originally lived) as he grew up he became a Lakers Fan! I stayed true to my Boston teams. I never knew anything about hockey till we moved to Massachusetts and then I saw Bobby Orr and wow! What a magnificent hockey player! Oh. Gosh! I forgot to mention the Celtics! Larry Bird was my favorite. As my son grew up he and his friends cheered the Lakers on and I was the lone Celtics fan! You can imagine when they played each other how it was at our house! They all gathered there and I jumped up and down when my team did well and they did the same when their team did well. Magic Johnson and Larry Bird! They were both magic on the basketball court and the rivalry was awesome!! I miss the beauty of Autumn and the roadside stands and the pressed cider and the MacIntosh apples and the cheddar cheese! And the people! I don't miss the spraying in the summer or the salt on the roads to melt the ice or the black ice. But it is a beautiful state with very nifty people and so much history! Oh. We lived very close to Walden Pond and we'd go there and just sit on a blanket and absorb how beautiful it all was! In fact when we moved back to California the Celtics were in the playoffs and we CALLED Boston Garden to find out the score! I'm not kidding! I'm sure the telephone operator was surprised! I don't follow or watch the games the way I used to but when a Boston team wins I am always very happy 'cause I will always be rooting for them! :) Happy Friday Red! :)
Bobby Orr was my IDOL as a little girl loving hockey, where back then as a 9 year old girl "loving" Bobby Orr, he was going to be my future husband...eh so was Carl Yastrzemski..I couldn't make up my mind lol!! My dad is a huge sports fan who had all girls..therefore he as a sports fan with his passion/love of sports obviously got my sisters and I to all also be Boston sports FANatics since we were little girls. We as a family back in the 70's would even travel on the weekends/stay in hotels every youth hockey season to attend our neighborhood boys hockey tournaments...back then it was normal for my family of 4 girls and mom to travel with our dad to be able to watch our neighborhood boys play hockey lol! Massachusetts is a beautiful State....depending on where one lives or is raised(as are all our States).. My sisters and I were fortunate that our dad moved us to live/grow up "in the country" in Massachusetts....because the city of Chelsea that we were living in until 1967(because our mom was raised there) eventually became a hell hole of a city that became unrecognizable to our mom when we'd go there to visit our Nana.
My then-husband's Aunt Anne had a place on Cape Cod where we were invited to Christmas Dinner one year. It's been so many years ago I don't remember which town on the Cape but I'm a Foodie and I remember Aunt Anne made Plum Pudding with an Orange hard sauce that was sublime. The first time I'd ever had it! Funny the things you remember isn't it? That was over 50 years ago and I still see her in the kitchen putting the finishing touches on the dessert! Bobby Orr was the most "beautiful" athlete I've ever seen in any sport. He could stop on dime..switch directions instantly and made it all appear ballet-like. But he paid for it. I think bad knees cut his career short but I will never forget watching him on the ice! Didn't he have to retire when he was still in his 20's? My then-husband was born in Lexington. We walked the Freedom Path, meandered around Harvard Square, shopped at the bookstore there, enjoyed concerts on the Charles River and 4th of July celebration was especially nifty!! The Boston Pops were a favorite! Shopping for bargains at Filene's! We moved there in November 1965 and returned to California in January 1970. That was very long ago and yet I still miss it! Thank you for friendly/chatty response. I enjoyed reliving old times! Happy Saturday Red! :)
