Have you ever tried confessional writing, did it help?

Do you mean what I know as journaling? Writing down my thoughts/feelings and exploring various aspects of my life to venture potentially deeper to motives/etc.?

Yes, it has helped me quite a bit.
    :)

  • Is your confessional writing, if you do any, shared with someone, or is it confined to your private diary for you to mull over at some time in the near or distant future? This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at December 19, 2023 5:14 PM MST

Well, public or private...it doesn't matter how one confesses...;))

I'm not sure if I do it directly.  I tried keeping a journal/diary once when I was eight years old and I couldn't keep up with it.  Maybe I could try it now at 50 and it might have a different impact on me.
I do write goals down and every day have a list of things to do that sometimes help me reach those long-term goals.  I'm not sure that is what you are asking.
When I have a problem or have done something I feel was "naughty" and write it down.
I try not put anything with controversy in writing unless I absolutely have to. Big winks and smiles!

    It's nice to see you again Veena.K.  I've missed you. :) :)

  • I keep a journal.
It turns confessional when I've had a spat with Ari, had an accident, made a mistake, or struggle with doubt.

Normally I would confide only in my closest friends,
but recently a friend asked me to help a third person from another site.
    So I did.
The woman was having the same difficulties I had had over a year ago with a Mugger who has since left.
We had long exchanges. It turned out he'd been fishing her too, and it was just as sinister.
Our chat confirmed her fears; she cut him off and left the site.
I knew of one other who had definitely had a bad time with him.
Clearly, this was a wider issue than just personal experience,
and it needed to be shared for the benefit of others.
I discussed it with JA and she agreed.
So I roughly summarised the story and posted it here as a blog, Beware the Fisher.

I'm uncomfortable with my stupidity and unethical behaviour,
but I believe it's better to warn others than to hide in shame.
