    In Maine it is mandatory...you get fined if you don't.

    I LOVE it! On so many bottles I see "HI and ME" ONLY and that's it! I thin  both states are environmental STARS and every state should do exactly the same. Thank you for your reply Ele! :)

    In Michigan, they pay you 10 cents for every aluminum can you turn in.  Folks from other states bring in truck loads of cans for profit.

    They stopped that. We give our aluminium cans to a friend and if they don't say MI on them they won't take them.

  • They don't pay you.  they refund you.   World of difference.

    We just get free recycling at the refuse dumps or can go to the recyclers if we want the value for non-soda container recyclables.
