If your neighbor did not know he/she had oil beneath their property would you slant drill it up before they became aware?

I have heard of this being done. I think here a person has to have at least 15 acres to drill.

I was taught in Real Estate School that a person owns "to the center of the Earth" so if that is still true, this would be theft.

It would be theft to me either way, so no I would not slant drill.

No.  That is theft and criminal trespass.  You would not get away with it.  There are regs and inspections when drilling oil.

Everybody around here has gas and oil. Unfortunately, I don't have enough acres to allow drilling. Back in the 60's, all kinds of oil leases were made out for this land, but then they sub-divided this land and shut out the oil and gas companies. Oh, well, no chance I will ever be able to "move to Beverly, Hills, that is".
