Every time you hear yet another story of how someone's own Facebook postings have backfired in their face, aren't you glad you never signed

  • I hear that! I don't want anything to do with Facebook or Twitter. I even know a site similar to this that the only way you can sign up is to join through Facebook. Doesn't interest me in the least.

If I didn't have a handful of relatives and friends that use FB as their primary means of communication, I would leave it again for good.

And then they wonder, "Why are they snooping?  That's PRIVATE information!"

I know some who have family fights and air all their dirty laundry on FB.  SMH

Geez Boz....you know my sister?  LOL

She did that crap and I put her on a forever block.  One too many times she put our family business out there.

And yes, she is always complaining about being "stalked".  Arrrgh!

The more they lose their audience, the better.

She has none, so she gossips about mine.  Yeh, she crossed a line she can't uncross.

    Understand...that's sad.

I was thinking about all the kids who are going to get curious about their folks when they are older and the things they are going to see on FB...then again, a lot of those people already let their kids see what a POS they are.

Boz, this is a serious concern of mine as well.  My dad was a hoarder and never parted with very personal letters he had with friends and relatives.  He even made copies of what he sent out.  I can tell you first hand that after he died, what he left behind was nothing but pain for his children.  He was a single dad for many years and a very frustrated one.  I was sad to hear he was pretty miserable raising us.

So yeh...I wish people could remember that social media may indeed be that diary you leave behind for your loved ones.

    Yeppers.

Another thing about it is it works the other way, too.  My brother recently got my Ma a smartphone and got her on FB.  She is a bit put off by how the kids talk on there.  Like I said, I don't have an account, but I guess I'm the only one in the family that doesn't.

The main reason I stick with it is that I have older relatives that I cherish and I know they get a lot of joy being on there.

It's all about how you use it.  I certainly learned to cut off people that would take that joy out of me with it.

I understand why people like it, it's just not for me.  There are things I simply do not wish to know about my family and friends...lol

I like keeping up with old friends on Facebook.  For the people who brag about crimes and get caught, keep it up you fools!  For everyone else, don't post anything that you would not want even one person to ever see.  It's not hard.

Remember, I subscribe to the notion of "Remove all warnings."

    Thank you.

(Is "Remove All Warnings" an option on FB or something?)

What I like about Facebook is keeping in touch with healthy, normal, nice people that don't live close by.

What I hate about Facebook?  All those people that think it's totally acceptable to put really personal stuff out there, and then put their settings to "PUBLIC".  WTF?  Talk about wanting attention.

I do it in small doses, especially if I am not feeling too good myself.

Absolutely...It's right up there with seeing videos of people running into things as they text and walk.

  • Yes. I was on Facebook throughout high school, but mid-way through college I cancelled my account and I haven't looked back. I have little desire to be on social media. Occasionally looking at my friends' Instagram photos is about as much as I do. I did appreciate Facebook for being able to quickly find out about events I was invited to, but let's face, that almost never happens anymore :P
