Don't think I ever had a vanilla taste in music when I was young  ... Korn and song i  posted my younger years :) my last two loves where what most people would call " hipsters" so I did discover indie  music ... And I do like it lots... 

whether it's "hipster-y" or not, there is this nice feeling of being the only one, or one of the few ones, who knows a certain song/band.. it feels like it's yours, kind of like it belongs to you only.. that's nice, sometimes.

my taste in music would also put me in the hipster category, I guess, but I figure I like what I like and it's a kind of a diverse variety of different things, so who cares.

indie is pretty cool, it speaks more.. authentically I think. some of the best lyrics I've heard are indie, whether it's indie rock or indie folk.. :)
