Hi JA, I have that problem. When I was in the work force I never had to use an alarm clock, my internal body clock was always spot on, but now that I've been retired I find myself all messed up, lol. Sometimes I'll get just 4 hours sleep and then nap for a couple in the daytime, it's crazy, but's Ize ain't complain'en. Whoa!!!

It's most likely just as gradual a process as what took place to get you where you are now. There probably aren't any tricks, no magic wand.

I drift into that unless I consciously avoid it.  You have to set an alarm and wake the same time each day.  That is the only way.  You will start going to bed earlier.....you won't be able to avoid it.  You'll be so tired and sleepy.  It can take about two weeks to get there.  Good luck.

I always thought retired folks took naps because of being old.  That's not it at all.  It from staying up all night.  ;)

My neighbors do that. I think they're in their 70s. There have been plenty of times we've both heard the same noise at 1 or 2 am and have gone to investigate. We'll wind up sitting outside and shooting the breeze for an hour in the middle of the night. lol

Summer is part of my problem. I don't have to get up, so I don't. I had a deadline last week that I was scrambling to meet and I stayed up until 5am to finish the work. This morning my daughter was waking up just as I was going to bed. O_o I will probably just pick a day and not sleep at all so I can go to bed at a normal hour.

Both my parents became real night owls as they age.  I'm afraid I am the same darn way.  The older I get, the more I don't conk out at a decent hour.

I don't have any answers since this is a huge problem with me as well.

I will be reading everyone else and hoping for a few helpful hints.

  • Stay awake and then go to bed early.  If that makes any sense.
