I guess we'd find out. If he were to go to jail it would be for the privileged. He'd get his nails manicured, his hair dyed...all the conveniences of Mar A Lago and Trump Tower. SIGH. He'd never do hard time . He wouldn't last a day. Too soft. Thank you for your reply  Addb! :)

Bullies largely depend on social norms to protect them from the consequences of their bullying. This applies to 'tough guy' bullies no more and no less than it applies to corporate bullies, religious bullies and whichever other kind of bullies you care to mention.

Sorry JakobA. What is your answer? What social norms exist in prison?  Thank you for your reply and Happy  Sunday! :)

All people, even the worst criminals, are born an raised in a social context that have a lot of rules: "dont hit girls", "dont steal", "dont kill people", "dont cheat on your tax returns". Of course some of those rules may be weakened by other rules: "A real man is dominant in the family", "The early bird gets the worm", "it is kill or be killed", "the government is so corrupt that it is a patriotic duty to avoid paying taxes by any means"; but the point is that people are raised with norms, raised to be social beings that can function in whichever society they happen to be born into.

The problem with that is that the social 'rules' are not entirely unambiguous (as demonstrated bu the two lists of rules above) we can find excuses there, and justifications, etc, etc. Criminals get caught and sentenced on the rules that have been codified as "The Law", and that is only a small fraction of the rules they have been taught.

In fact you will often find that 'criminals' are firmer and more absolute about 'following the rules' than people who are not criminals. It is just that when you look closer, They have settled on a sublet of the rules that does not include some of those rules that has become 'the law'. But how about you? Do you think smoking marijuana is a horrible crime that should carry a severe sentence? This post was edited by JakobA the unAmerican. at May 28, 2017 12:29 PM MDT
