A friend asked me to play this recording at his funeral. Can you have it played at mine?
~ I seriously am considering on having this specific video of Enya's song with lyrics shown as the only music -- if I even have a service ~ I love the song, the lyrics and this artwork.
I like both of those songs! :) As much as I like Norman Greenbaum's original version of the song, I liked the Dr and the Medics cover to "Spirit in the Sky!" The drummer is cute to me, too. After I listened to the song, Dr and the Medics's cover to ABBA's "Waterloo" came on -- I liked that, too!
Greenbaum built that fuzz box in his garage, using a de-tuned valve amp. Hence the pops, whistles and general feedback issues. I'm usually all for originals over covers, but in this case Dr & The Medics had overdrive and distort pedals to generate that sound without the feedback. The song was too early, the technology didn't exist in 1969.
