Depends on the specific case, but in general, if we are talking about suicide as a result of severe depression, I'd say no. For the same reason that we wouldn't usually consider it selfish to succumb to cancer, or fail to survive a car wreck.
Well there is nothing about the self. There is the desire to eliminate the self. At any cost. I would not call it selfish or self less. It is about being unbalanced and frustrated.
No one except a person who is in a lot of continual mental agony, and maybe physical as well, would consider this option. Eliminating the self is hatred of the self. But the self does not die. What you are killing, in effect, is the pain that is being caused. Other people do not figure in when one is in this dire of straights. They believe there is no hope for any joy. That should be forgiven and understood at least.
The irony is that the pain is the mind and the mind's imaginings. So in order to calm the mind, don't kill it, control it. Realize what it is.

If those left behind loved then they would never see it as selfish.

Death is inevitable and if you're claiming that suicide is selfish because it puts other's lives in danger, think about how each person dies. Surely not every body that has to be collected is or was in a safe way. Why is it that when we think of someone committing suicide that the first people we concern ourselves with is the people it affects around them and not the person battling suicide first?
As I have stated above, death is inevitable. Whether it be natural or not, it is something we all have to face eventually. Whether it be dealing with the loss of a loved one and/or facing that path one day ourselves. I think demanding that someone stay alive during what could be the toughest battle anyone could possibly fathom could be equally selfish, if not more. Wanting someone to stay alive because it would hurt you or others is just as selfish. What is worse? An unanswered question or watching someone you love in pain for the rest of their life because you can't let them go?
What's selfish is procreation, not suicide.
in some cases, like murder suicide, the murderer acts like a coward.
In the case of other people taking their lives I wouldn´t be so quick to jump to that conclusion.
Ultimately every decision we make is selfish.
