Greg Gianforte, the Montana Bodyslam Pol, was sentenced for his assault on a reporter. No jail time. Why?

Here's what tuff guy Gianforte did to make up for his physical assault

Paid $4600 in restitution to Ben Jacobs, the reporter who was  bodyslammed to the ground, physically hurt and had his glasses broken

Must do 40 hours of community service

Must have 20 hours of anger management counseling

Will give $50,000 to the COMMITTEE TO PROTECT JOURNALISTS.

Wrote Ben Jacobs a letter of apology acknowledging the assault and also acknowledging that the question Jacobs asked was a legitimate question about health care.

The fact that a committee exists to protect journalist from tuffguy Pols is appalling and an abomination. What happened to civility? What happened to self-control? What happened to common sense?  Where did they all go?  Anyone know? :(

For a misdemeanor conviction of a first time offender who already came to a civil settlement (the apology, restitution, and $50,000 donation) with the victim of assault, that punishment is not unusual.  The reporter was satisfied with the resulting sentence.
