They were elected to serve their constituents. They may feel that spending their time opposing the president will not serve to advance their agenda. Just as in any job, you work to accomplish your goals and serve your customers/stockholder/clients and sometimes that means flattering and cajoling a boss you don't like. People who talk about bi-partisan support and then think a political party should work against itself, confuse me. I learned in the workplace that even when you don't respect your boss, you need to respect the position she/he holds.
