Well it is right yes, but the INITIAL reason for July 4 was freedom from tyranny from England.. being taxed, overtaxed, and ruled by the country they emigrated away from. However  it did not give those right to 'owning' people , enslaving them... :( That is such an awful part of this country's history..thank God for Abraham Lincoln almost a century after 1776.

They were in the midst of chaos and disorder, trying to make life livable and peaceable with little to go by besides the seat of their pants.   They really could not do better than they did.  They created one hell of a Constitution and Bill of Rights. 

Imagine if Trump wrote it?
