My cat will often wake me up very early. She hates her litter box (yes, we keep it clean) and she insists on going outside.

She's a creature of habit, I suppose.  I have no doubt about the cleanliness.  I never heard any bad reports from your former students about you ever smelling like kitty litter.

Yeah, my cat is always awake if there is a possibility of food.

bh, I just read that my parakeets need 12 hours of sleep a day.  I am with them a lot and I cannot see how they can manage that.

  • I usually hear my kitty cat making noise somewhere in the house after I've awakened. He never sleeps in like I do.

Your statement in not accurate. Do your birds sleep for long periods during the daytime? I doubt it. Ours are awake during the daytime hours.

So it depends on the animal and to a great extent on their feeding habits. Carnivores do generally sleep for extended periods. Herbivores (and most omnivores) are awake and grazing when the sun is shining and they can see.  Sometimes they even graze at night when conditions are poor and food is scarce.

Not really. They're usually just lounging about until I wake them up. It's usually the cats, I would poke them with my toe to awaken them and they would swipe at me and continue to sleep..
