Fifty, seventy-five years ago, most celebrities wouldn't have been caught dead nude on camera for fear it would ruin their careers.

Fast forward to today, and many celebs fear remaining clothed would ruin their careers.  Progress is grand, I guess.

It happened but it was a rarity. So many things in this world are becoming devalued and sadly, the human body appears to be one of them.

I'd like to know why sex is such a big deal period.

I mean I get it, I get it.   But to the extent that it is worshipped borders on the ridiculous.

Now, now, don't get your twig and berries in an uproar. We've got a strictly platonic thing going on. I'm not trying to move in on your woman and number one sparring partner.

Nope, the theory still stands strong. Facts are that Monroe was Hugh Hefner's first centerfold, but at that point in history, "adult" magazines were not yet mainstream, so it was a daring but secretive, hush-hush move on her part.  Monroe was no stranger to pushing the envelope and angering the studio executives who paid her salary/bills.  The age-old studio system was in the process of being dismantled, but it was still intact enough to attempt to control entertainers' lives.

While you have a good point about Monroe, it's largely anecdotal, but for the sake of your accurate rebuttal, I have edited my original post.  Deal?

Check out Hedy Lamar's first film that headlined her from around 1933. I believe that it's title translated to English is Ecstasy. At 84-years ago it's a bit outside your window but I'm thinking it probably still qualifies for your purpose.

And granted. most mainstream movies produced that far back don't feature overt nudity (porn was available then too, I think Edison's second movie was a "skin flick" . . . ) a number of films made before 1934 (when the industry introduced a "Code", largely to avoid Congress from doing so) were pretty racy and provocative and featured well know stars of the day.

I'm sorry, I should have specified the United States as the only country to which I was referring. European attitudes and sensibilities have always differed vastly from those of the US, so you're correct that it took place.  Being a different culture and society and country, however, delineates a whole other set of rules that do not apply to the US.

Yes, you are right, but you have to remember the times they were living in........

remember Marilyn Monroe's famous skirt-blowing scene from "The Seven Year Itch"???    at the time, it was really considered shocking: I was 14 and a big fan - still am!! - & followed it closely on the news and in the press.

but, again, it was 1954!!!  and no mainstream movie star had ever done that before..........amazingly, someone in recent years said 'what was all the fuss about? she didn't show anything you wouldn't have seen had she been wearing a bathing suit'!!! HOW TRUE!!

BUT that was then........they even cut one line she had during that famous scene; she says to Tom Ewell;.......'don't you wish you had a skirt? you must be so warm in those hot pants'....

NOT ALLOWED TO USE THE WORD 'HOT'.....that's from the old Motion Picture Production Code of 1934.........so they cut that part of the line........when you see the movie today, all she says is the first line......then CUT........

what an amazing world we live in huh?
