this lady doctor i went to yrs ago cause of constant headaches, she put me on antidepressants, and a yr and a half later and 50 lbs heavier i found out i had a sinus infection all that time, i turned her in to the medical board, no excuse for that
You always make me think :) It was our family GP... when I was first diagnosed with hypothyroid by a specialist the GP (general practitioner) refused to accept the diagnosis.. she refused to prescribe me the medicine... but worse than that she was plain nasty and obstructive about it...
I felt very let down as she was aware of all the other things I was suffering from at the time and that they were likely linked to the hypoT...
Hmm... This may be too dark for this board, but I'll share anyway. When I was 11 or 12, I was raped. I don't know if you can remember yourself at that age, but it's an awkward age. You're not really familiar with your body at that point, let alone comfortable with it, and I was more or less raised to believe that my body was something shameful. Nobody had ever seen me naked (at least not since my toddler years) and I didn't even go to a doctor for regular exams, let alone a womanly doctor. I was already traumatized by the experience, and nobody prepared me for what the exam would entail. It was horrific. I was terrified and embarrassed. I didn't even want to disrobe. I was a sobbing mess. They held me down and forcibly removed my clothes, then probed and prodded me every which way looking for evidence. It was as bad as the rape. The trauma from that experience left me with horrible anxiety over any kind of womanly checkup. I was really lucky in that I found a wonderful OBGYN in my late 20s. She was gentle and kind and patient and helped me get over the anxiety and flashbacks. To this day, though, I am still angry about how they treated me. I was just a kid. I needed a trauma specialist or at least a counselor to help walk me through things and process what was happening. What they did to me was totally unforgivable.
Wow! You told me that you had been through some stuff, but I never imagined that you had been through something so horrible. I was close with a woman who was sexually assaulted when she was 19 and it was so hard for her to live with what had happened in her past and I am just so amazed by you and how strong and open you are. I hate that such a thing ever happened to you. You really are an incredible, sweet wonderful person and I feel honored to have met you.
