One of my biggest pet peeves is when people bum rush the elevator as soon as the doors open....

Can't they wait one nanosecond to see if anyone wants off first?

We don't have a lot of high-rises in these here parts.

When I worked in Chicago, I worked at the Daley Center and that building is very high.  It has at least 30 stories or more.

That elevator took FOREVER to get to where I worked on the 26th floor.   If I didn't bum rush the elevator I would be fired for being late.

  • I've been pushed back when I was trying to exit. When the doors open I stand to the side and see if anyone is getting off first.

I always try to be polite, but I have not been in that situation now in many a moon.  (about 25 years)

I know what you mean, however, there are also times when I wait for someone to exit the elevator so I can get on and they're so busy looking at their iPhones that the doors will start to close if I don't rush in, which always signals them to rush out.

  • I was taught it was basic manners to wait for people to get off the elevator first, and I always do so.
