Why do people (strangers) think it's ok to touch a pregnant woman's belly?

I'm not sure. I don't do that.  Maybe they are the same goons that run over and pet your dog when you are trying to walk him.

  • Very true. That was the one thing I hated when I was pregnant, and the only strange dogs I pet are the therapy animals that come into the hospital where I work.

  • Do they? That sounds incredibly inappropriate. I don't want to be touched at all by strangers, so I certainly wouldn't do it to anyone else.

  • It happens to pregnant women all the time. Strangers think it's ok to just walk up and rub their bellies.

I haven't had any strangers come up to me to rub my belly but that would be really weird if they did.

  • It will happen at one point....It's more closer to the end than anything else.

That is a very strange phenomenon. Though I guess it's better for them to touch the baby's house than their front door.

I have never done that. That is grounds for chopping off a stranger's hand.

  • One would think. It's mostly women who do it and they should know better.

I do not touch any woman in any situation unless or until she has let me know it's ok.  People who touch a woman's hair, faces, bodies, etc without permission (especially strangers) are rude and uncouth.  I am couth.

On the other hand, there are some women who say things like, "Oh, the baby just kicked, you can feel the little foot.  Go ahead, put your hand right here."  Skeeves me out.  I don't WANT to touch the belly!

Oh, come now, Karen. Do you really think that's possible?  (And I thought you knew me.)
