Loneliness and social isolation is a greater problem in the US than Obesity. Are you lonely and isolated?

Research asserting this was presented at the 125th Annual Convention of the American Psychological Association. In line with that the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) did a loneliness study and determined that 42.6 million people over the age of 45 in the United States suffer from chronic loneliness. Are you among them?

I rarely watch tv but there was a documentary about Japan last night.. I am fascinated with Japan as I worked for a good many years at a Japanese school. So.. the doc was saying how the Japanese birthrate has dropped drastically, something like a third of their population will be missing in something or other year.

They say that the causes include that people, males especially, prefer to stay indoors and play games and erm fulfill their urges online/with porn. So boys and girls aren't meeting, they aren't marrying and they aren't having children. Women are tending to concentrate on building a career.

They also said.... and personally I find that even more interesting and worrying.. that even those who are married or in relationships aren't having much, if any, sex.. They seem to cite being too busy etc...

Whoa! That IS depressing as he** Addb. I wonder what is going on with the human species that we are becoming more isolated/distant/inaccessible? It is not a good trend. Thank you for your thoughtful if somewhat sad reply m'dear. Not your fault. You're just reporting what you read. SIGH. :(

((hugs)) I feel deep sorrow for your loss cp. Condolences don't convey them properly but it's all I have. I'm glad you have your son and grandson. I hope you are all huggers. Every human being needs to give and receive hugs on a daily basis. I know your memories of your life with your husband will be sadsweet but after awhile the sad will recede and the happy will be in charge. Thank you for your reply. I apologize if this question in any way caused you pain. Happy Monday m'dear.
