Glen Campbell died today at age 81, following a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Campbell was one of the biggest stars of the late 1960s and 1970s. He sold more than 45 million records, had 12 gold albums and 75 chart hits.

Any thoughts? Favorite songs?

My grandfather had Alzheimer's. He died aged 75. The decline is awful, it robs them of everything, it's like it turns them back in to babies. I'm not really a Glenn Campbell fan, but I do like a song he did a cover of.

I'm sorry about your grandfather. Alzheimer's is a brutal disease. Very touching documentary was made about Campbell's struggle with it, "I'll Be Me."

It's great righty. Might be especially tough to watch given your personal connection, but well worth it. Deeply moving. Been trying to post the song from the documentary, but it won't go up for some reason. But you can check it out on Vevo or YouTube. It's called "I'm not gonna miss you."

Thinking of the difficulties you all probably had to go through with your grandfather, righty1. I'm sure it had to be hard.
    Best to you as always,
    WelbyQ

He seemed to be a very personable guy. That's based only on my seeing him on TV. I liked the album he did with Bobbie Gentry.

Don't think I realized the depth of his talent until I watched the documentary on his life.

  • I am Ukrainian, and his hit songs were made before I was born. I never heard of him until lately. An artist who drew pictures of me showed a picture he drew of this singer. His parents were fans, and he inherited some albums from them. He has not played any of them for me yet.
