"These are the times that try men's souls". From Thomas Paine's The American Crisis. How is your soul being tried?
T'was written between 1776-1783 during the American Revolution. A series of 16 pamphlets. It also speaks of a "summer soldier" and "sunshine patriot". The more things change the more they stay the same. Yes. I guess.
Is your soul being tried about anything Addb or is it only we in America who face that calamitous exigency? This is the worst of times for me. Never in all my born days could I have envisioned a Doofus Donny as prez. Never. But there he is. Gawd awful in all his glory. A bad seed being nurtured by toadies and lemmings and the deaf/dumb/blind. Thank you for your reply! :)
If we have another revolution, which I doubt, because no one has the courage or backbone for it, it may become a time to try men's souls. I prefer Dickens in his opening to "A Tale of Two Cities". "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times". My soul is at peace, for there is nothing new under the sun. Certainly nothing of a political nature to cause stress and anxiety.
