Trump says he will shut down the government if he doesn't get his wall. So how important is Trumpwall to you and why?

I think Trump is overly obsessed with the entire issue, and that he shoots his mouth off entirely too much about it. From the first time he stupidly said that the Mexican government would pay for the wall, he made himself an even bigger target of ridicule and scorn than he already was.  To repeat it continually has dug a deeper grave for him. Trump's wall is extremely low on the list of things I find important; it's at the bottom of 100.

I feel the same way you do and would say that hiring more border patrol agents would be a better use of those funds.  However, they did an investigative piece on CBSN Investigates last night where it said they were having a great deal of difficulty filling the posts they already have opened.  Many of the applicants are not able to pass lie detector tests (what does THAT tell you?).  Apparently, that is a new layer of background checking since too many border patrol agents had been compromised by the cartels.

The wall is a major reason I voted for Trump among others.

If he is genuinely concerned about the problem of illegal immigration, he needs to tackle the more significant and less tractable part namely those who enter legitimately, but outstay their entitlement. The wall does nothing to tackle this, and is merely gesture politics of a futile and extravagant kind.  This post was edited by Malizz at August 24, 2017 6:17 AM MDT

Good point. Also, when the US government starts actually enforcing the laws already on the books and arrests the rich white employers who exploit illegal aliens, the problem would dry up practically overnight.

I'm pretty sure Trump can't shut down the government all by himself.  Congress holds the purse strings, not the president.  If the GOP were to do that, they can kiss their chances of being re-elected goodbye.
