A litre of hot water put into a 7 billion litre pond will essentially do nothing to the temperature of the pond.

What are the odds that you will make a difference in a world of 7 billion people?

Depends how hot -I weigh 195 pounds and if I was heated to about 50 million degrees F I could probably kill everything that is alive on earth.

The temperature is a small indication of all the activity that can be set in motion by a litre of water into that pond.

Same with each individual.  In the grand scheme of things, who knows?   There is not even an agreed-upon unit of measurement for it. This post was edited by WM BARR . =ABSOLUTE TRASH at August 24, 2017 7:46 AM MDT

Butterfly effect. I could give somebody a condom and prevent the birth of another Hitler. Or another Einstein.

Like Winston Churchill said, if i can make one persons day a little brighter for being in it, then i have had a successful day indeed.

One person in seven billion was made a little brighter because of me today. I believe that qualifies as a difference in the world albeit small.

  • Everything we do and think affects the people in our lives and their reactions in turn affect others. The choices we make have far-reaching consequences. Each of us carries within us the capacity to change the world in small ways for better or worse.

Given enough time/distance, probably "a sure bet."
