Open Letter?

Hi everyone, this is Benedict Arnold, aka Karen. 
Just wanted to say bye and let you know why I'm leaving. Pure and simple, this place is no longer where I want to hang out, the schoolyard bullies have taken over and no one who can do anything about it seems to care. Most of the questions are thinly disguised land mines, and I'm just sick of all the hate stinking up the air around here. This place is nothing like it used to be, and nothing like what it had the potential to be. It's been allowed to go to seed, and there's not much fun the be had around here these days. Most of the decent members have been ran off and no one seems to care about that either. I've held on as long as I could, but the rope finally snapped and there's no repairing it. I'm pretty sure this will be taken down, but some of you will see it before it goes to the Never-Never. I've really enjoyed getting to know you guys, and I am friends with some of you on Facebook, so we can still keep in touch there. I'm on another site that is kinda like what this place used to be. It's nice and relaxed there, not inundated with anti-Trump questions and arguments. I really mourn the death of this site, I was one of the very first members after Weylon got it up and running, so it really saddens me to walk away from it like this. I put a lot of time and energy into this site when I was a moderator, just to have it all come to this, sad, very sad. The site I'm on has a lot ex-members from here, so it's all good on that front. Y'all take care and maybe I'll see you on other sites....at least I hope so,

  • Umm.. I've been on a few other sites and I find Answermug to be one of the nicer places, just my opinion.
    Some of the higher ups on the other sites can really be hypocritical and arrogant.
    I don't mind thought provoking questions about Trump, but just maybe not so much of it.
    I try to pick my battles on that one.
    Sorry to hear that you're leaving Karen I didn't get to know you as well as I would've liked.

    And you know what, Truth?  That is IT.  I am here because of PEOPLE LIKE YOU.  I want to be around people that just appreciate what IS here and have fun with it.  I cannot imagine what it takes to run a whole site and I cannot imagine what it is like to run a site that is FREE for godsakes and listen to people gripe over and over about what sucks about it. 

    It is always something THEY don't like because they have some bug up their butts and need attention. 

    Who gives a crap what questions are asked?  We make our own fun and make our own answers and make this site.  No one else does it. 

    So when people start grousing over and over about how things are WRONG around here, I say they are going to do it no matter where they go.  That is the nature of some people.  We have had them on here since this site began and many of them are the same people who whined about Answer Bag.

    Please just go and get it over with.  Then they cannot stand the NO attention and want to come back here and recruit other people to hate the site.

    I think that takes a lot of hypocritical nerve.

    Like I said to everyone else who just has to announce their disappointment.  JUST GO already.

    Karen, all of us have heard from you how much you hate this place, yet here you are.  So, just GO.  Please.  GO.

    I've left a million times, but mostly for my own personal life issues.
    I just kinda disappear for a while and then come back when I feel like talking again and I'm always happy to see that Answermug is still here.
    Ok, actually I did get in trouble a long time ago on here for deleting and changing my own questions after people had answered them and it made their answers more "exciting" LoL!
    I was mostly doing it because I used to get bad headaches and I was frustrated and then I left, but JustAsking forgave me so I try not to mess with stuff here because this is  good site and I like it.

    That's hilarious.  At least you don't blame other people for your imagined disappointments. 

    I've seen this over and over again.  I don't come on other people's sites, like Just Asking's site and just dump all over it and expect to be welcome.  But people who do that on here ARE still welcome.  But that is not good enough for them. 

    They talk about hating or people being this way or that way.  The only thing that needs changing around here is your own brain.

    So, either go or stay but be grateful for the welcome mat or get the heck away and stop raining on everyone else's parade and stop trying to RECRUIT other people to leave with you.

    As a relative newcomer, I obviously can't know what you've experienced here over the years. And if blocking users from the homepage feed wasn't an option, I'd be following you right out the door. Being subjected to a daily barrage of what I consider to be spam is not my idea of fun. And management's unwillingness to take action certainly compounds the problem.   

    It's just a shame that those good users who left didn't exercise the blocking option, fill up the site with their own questions, and make their own fun. Which in my limited tenure here seems entirely possible. And though I may not be at AM for long, I have been on Q&A sites for years and witnessed countless users come and go, convinced that the grass was greener on the other side. And a majority of the time it simply was not.    

    Best wishes and I hope you find whatever it is you're looking for on the other site.

    Seems that anyone who officially leaves the site is given that moniker.  There are a whole lot of "Benedicts" floating around.

    Benedicts tend to surface when people answer older questions. Probably a fair amount of activity among those accounts. 

    Not sure how "officially leaving" is determined and one goes from casually stepping away from the site to being a "Benedict." Strange too that this question is still here but Karen's blog posts appear to be gone. I really enjoyed those. She's a great storyteller.

    On this site, you can go in and delete your account. During the process, it will ask do you want to delete your posts or leave them. If you leave anything the posts will appear with "Benedict Arnold" as the user name. I think you can leave or delete only q&a or only blogs etc.
