The Dead. Bob Dylan. Blue Oyster Cult. Joan Baez (that was really good) Traffic, The Police. Those stand out for some reason. The Mothers of Invention. Oh Country Joe and the Fish. Black Sabbath. Ten Years After. The Animals. The Ramones. Jethro Tull. The Sex Pistols. Richie Havens. The Doors.
I saw a lot of really great people. Devo. The Motels. Iggy Pop. The New York Dolls. The Stones.
When I was 13 I went to one of ELvis Presley's last concerts. He had so much charisma, even bloated and near death he almost made me faint I was so in love. But then again, i WAS 13.
My personal all time favorite rock concert was seeing the Grateful Dead at Radio City Music Hall on Halloween night Oct 31, 1980. I had camped outside for 3 days to get front row seats. My friend and I, dressed up in full costumes for the show. I took my inspiration off their Skeleton's From The Closet album. Yes, I was very young and dumb but I had fun. It was so packed we couldn't get past the 2nd row to our seats in front. A big guy in the second row sitting directly behind us picked each of us up as if we were rag dolls and put us in our seats. lol. I was dressed as a skeleton with 2 dozen dead roses that I was able to throw on stage to the guys. Of course, we were all tripping and smoking and just completely wasted. One of the best nights of my life. :-D
KISS at the Clipsal 500. I wouldn't waste my money on a KISS record, but I'd sweat diamonds to see them play live again. KISS are not and have never been about the music, they're about the show. Mötley Crüe are headliners in their own right - but they were the support act for that one. Nikki Six may have a flamethrower in the neck of his bass - but it was KISS's pyrotechnics that set fire to the lighting rig, Paul Stanley stood alone singing "Light My Fire" a capella while the firefighters extinguished it.
Not even among my favourite bands - but it's one hell of a show.
