Per Cambridge, Mass. Librarian Liz Phipps Soeiro, Dr. Seuss books are racist propaganda filled with caricatures/harmful stereotypes. WHAT?

Are any of you familiar with such views? I have never heard them before. If you have and you agree could you please provide some examples?

I suppose mentioning 'ham' in a child's book, as in the Suess story; 'Green Eggs and Ham' might be offensive to those who don't eat pork for religious reasons.

So let them not read the book.  There is nothing you can write or say or think that isn't going to offend someone somewhere sometime.  My criticism of what Mrs. Trump did was to donate books to a school that was sufficiently wealthy to have a large library of its own when she should have, and could have, donated those books to a school that needed those books more.

Pardon the intrusion. What I would have done would have been to thank her for the gift and then give the books to those who needed them. Why make a big deal out of it? That's just me. Happy Monday Spunky!

I understand that the librarian was not very gracious in her response.  On that we agree.

Yes. I think speaking up for what you believe depends upon the situation and the level of egregiousness. A gift of books does not rise to that level for me personally. Different strokes!

It doesn't rise to that level for me either.  She should have accepted the books and then sent them somewhere they could be put to better use.  I think she saw this as her moment to make a political statement.  Happy Wednesday. :)

    ...Is he an Evangalist?

I was in a Barnes & Noble years ago now, and I heard this nutbag Christian woman talking about the evils of Harry Potter.   People like that who think evil always have evil on their minds.

I heard that too and I just couldn't see. We read all of the books. Jim, me, my son and his friends. We all thought they were delightful. Go figger! Thank you for your reply and Happy Monday! :)

Theodor Geisel may have not been a particularly nice man in private, but he wasn't racist in print (except during World War II when Bill Hearst asked for anti-Japanese cartoons). Caricatures yes, racial stereotypes no, not in the children's books.

It just blew me away Sbf when I read that. I never noticed anything offensve or untoward. I bought Dr. Seuss books when my kid was little and enjoyed reading them to him. I thought they were fun and super creative. Thank you for your reply and Happy Monday. On another topic. Did you happen to watch any of the LAVER CUP match held in Prague? There was a European team captained by Bjorn Borg and a World team captained by John McEnroe. Yesterday's final match was between Nick Kyrgios and Roger Federer and Nick almost won . The level of tennis was superb. He is a brilliant player. He won the first set and could have won the second if....He was devastated at the loss but apparently this is something that Roger wanted to do to honor great tennis players of the past and  in 2018 they will play the Laver Cup in Chicago! Roger and Rafa were on the European team and Nick was on the World team. Of course I was rooting for the World team even though as you know Roger is my favorite player. The players were all Americans plus Nick. It showed true sportsmanship and great tennis . All the players of both teams shook hands and hugged after it was all over. Hope you got to see some of it. ESPECIALLY that final deciding match. Secretly? I always root for Nick and this is the first time he played Roger that I saw so I was torn. There is something about Nick that just draws me in. Don't tell anyone! :)

Oh m2c. You say that as often as you label what you don't like "fake news."  Why? I don't get it? I know there is much more to you than that yet your default position causes folks to think you are a broken record that's stuck on always defending Trump for everything all the time. I KNOW better. Why won't you show better? SIGH. Oh well. Thank you for your reply and Happy Monday.

Do you believe  Dr Seuss books are racist? If not, why then did this librarian refuse free books?
I call fake news when it is false. It is surprising the amount of times it happens.
