    I like to mix it up, eh. My wife likes to watch those Lifetime network movies. I heard one of the actors slip and let his Canadian accent be heard.     Colour, humour, valour, theatre, metre, encyclopaedia, foetus, oesophagus, aluminium - it's called English, which American isn't.

  • Actually aluminum is the original and correct spelling as named by the original discoverer.  The Brits decided to change it.

    As they should, the original discoverer didn't think. Convention wins out. Otherwise we'd have sodum, calcum, potassum, lithum, barum, titanum, uranum etc. English is confusing enough to begin with. This post was edited by Slartibartfast at October 7, 2017 1:22 PM MDT
