This may well be an inane question which I regret asking but doesn't lowering the water take infinitely longer than raising the bridge? What am I not getting here? Thank you for your reply Ele. I don't recognize the folks in the graphic though I expect I should.  Should I?

Yikes...I used an analogy. If you can't meet the standards of a certain situation...lower the standards. You know...like they used to and still do in schools.  By the way...It is the name of a Jerry Lewis movie. Quite funny.

OMG! DUH! Okay m'dear I get it. Like f'r instance what we've allowed in our presidency. SIGH. In fact I read that was also true of the military though I don't know for sure. In order to get more bodies in the military they had to lower the standards. Maybe that's why our cops are so often less than desirable. They don't get enough recruits so they lower the standards. I'm gonna ask a question and I'm sure I will get lambasted for it. Ho hum. What else is new? Thank you for your explanation Ele. Full speed ahead! :)

The military did that during 'Nam. Since then the standards are substantially higher. When I trained recruits 30 years ago I had a few that actually could not read. Not anymore.

Wow. Could not read? Whoa. That is very serious lowering. Good golly miss molly once again I had no idea. Don't you have to read instructions in the military? Don't you have to go to boot camp and take tests? I would think lowering the intelligence required or the physical ability somewhat could be done without too much damage. But illiteracy? Couldn't that get you killed? OK. I won't beat the dead horse. Thank you for that info  Ele. I'm glad that is no longer the case. I know the Special Ops/Black Ops Teams and the Seals and other elite groups, some of which we will never hear about, are beyond top-drawer excellent. :) This post was edited by RosieG at October 7, 2017 8:00 AM MDT

I will look again at my goals and focus on the few that seem more achievable and most important at the time. Then go from there. Sometimes things just need adjusting a bit
