Has a cat ever walked up to you and asked you to stroke it?

A cat called Marmalade approached me on September 13, 1984 and asked me to stroke it, so I did. It continued to make a fuss of me every time I saw it after that until it passed away in 1995.

That cat should be named after Billy.

With no words exchanged, at least human words, I've had many stray cats walk out of their way toward me and to me and then they ask me to do that. I oblige.

(I've had several human witnesses that are taken aback when it happens.)

    :)

I already had that in my collection before I saw that cat. Maybe its owners were fans of this band:

Yup, I was with you, and understood you, from the second I read your question.

Usually by licking me first.  He wants food his favorite toy (a rubber band i keep in my purse) or wants me to pet him.

    It always starts with licking.

Oh, yes. I've got a puss' at home that expects a good stroking as soon as I'm in the door.

The cat which inspired this question licked my hands after I first stroked it at its request. Lol:)

They usually just rub against my legs and whatnot. No cat has ever spoken to me, unless you count cat noises.

Can you decipher cat noises, Rpf? Can you tell what a cat is saying by the tone of its meow? I usually can. I also know that when a cat makes that hissing noise at you, it's telling you to f*** off. Did you know that? Lol:)

  • That's happened several times over the years Andy.  I can't associate with cats much now due to the wife's major allergy but they were ever-present in one way or another before we got together.  As things are now, many animals tend to go to her rather than me and some of these I have to intercept.  :)

It's such a shame when someone has an allergy to animals. I don't know how I'd handle it if I had such an allergy that I couldn't make a fuss of animals. I've always liked animals since I was a child.

  • She feels unnecessarily bad as she knows I'm a cat person.  :).  She can tolerate some critters though - one reason why we have Yorkshire Terriers is that they shed far less than almost all other breeds.  But give her 10 minutes with a friend's pug and she'll begin to suffer quite badly.

Yes often. Animals know if you are a animal person or not.
