Men and women took TIME to express how they really felt about each other. Hand written love letters were a normal occurance and you had to have patience and wait for a response from your loved one- during WW 2.  Which, when you saw them again made it all that more exciting, you couldn't wait to run up to them and kiss them. Also, in the past, women had to cover up their bodies, so it left a lot to the mens' imagination.
