Do you think promoting people to raise endangered species as pets helps in awareness and conservation efforts?

How are endangered species kept as pets by irresponsible animal lovers any better off? Effects on individual animals do not translate to effects on the overall condition of the species. A "pet" wild animal can pretty much never be returned to the wild and survive.

No, that's usually not possible. 

And keeping wild animals as "pets" is generally illegal in the USA (there are some exceptions but those require obtaining a permit on a case-by-case basis, and then the animal is generally judged unfit to return to the wild for other reasons).
