This is an informal environment. Also there are formats to letters now that say it is not required to indent, that say it is allowed to simply skip a line inbetween paragraphs. I usually us that format here, but would not for a letter.
The summer between 8th grade and 9th, my father asked me if I wanted to learn how to type. (My grandfather was having me type letters for him and since I was totally "hunt" and "peck" at the time, it was a special form of hell.)
I said yes.
He sent me to the local business school in the summer of 1959. (And I have been forever grateful.)
The typing class was for secretaries and the workbook required use of "block" vs "indent" style---I assumed for business letters.
I had to adapt in 11th grade to the "indent" style for school work.
But I prefer the "block" format and have always used it for personal use.

What, give that tilde-waving whack-job Randy D yet another reason to pounce all over us when we get it wrong? No thanks, pal; I do everything I can to avoid him. ~
