Discussion»Questions»Food and Drink» Ever eat a flower? Years ago in California high-falutin' restaurants served salads that had nasturtium petals in it. Never ate any. You?
Are they tasty Sbf? Do they taste like chicken? Just kidding. I've never seen them in the supermarket but then I've never looked or asked. Thank you for your reply! :)
You're shopping in the wrong supermarkets. Whole Foods has dandelion greens around here. Some others too. Or you can harvest them from your or someone else's lawn.
Sometimes we eat them. Like you say nasturtiums, squash blossoms, violas. If they are cultivated and sold at a store or in a farmers market. But I would be a little afraid to eat just any flower I saw. I cultivate them for the foliage and the blooms, not for the dinner plate.
What do they taste like officegirl? Are they perfumy sweet to the taste as the fragrance is to the nostrils? Honestly I have no idea if I've ever even seen one. I just remember some Hollywood starlet of many decades ago said she loved salads with nasturtium petals. I thought "SAY WHAT?" Do you just tolerate them or do you enjoy them and prefer salads that incorporate them? Thank you for your reply! :)
Tastes like eating flowers. Squash blossoms are pretty good but you have to be very careful cooking them because they are so sensitive they will shrivel to nothing. Well I was never a Hollywood starlet and when I get them its mostly just for novelty or a bit of freshness. Besides the squash (which I can only get occasionally) they have not become favorite foods though I would say I like them more than just tolerating them. Of course part is just thinking I am eating flowers which somehow seems healthy to me. But we eat so few I am sure they don't make a big difference. Yes in salads or as an edible garnish for other things. They add color to our meal as well!
I have never eaten a flower so your description that it tastes like eating flowers isn't helpful officegirl. Setting that aside are they expensive? I haven't seen them in supermarkets but maybe it's because I haven't looked. Thank you for your reply.
