I don't buy that at all. First, seats don't have airbags that deploy in an upwards direction, only to the side. 2nd, they need electrical power to "trigger" (the seat isn't connected to the car so where's that 12-volts coming from, and what triggered it?) and 3rd, they're each worth somewhere north of $800 - US. (They're a popular item to steel from vehicles), a bit too expensive to use as a practical joke.
The instant I heard that if you drive with your hands at 10 and 2, an airbag could break both your arms, I immediately dropped my hands to 9 and 3 and never needed time to change that habit. (Ironically, when I broke both my arms, it had nothing to do with airbags).
I haven't had an air bag go off and I am happy about that because I have a 2009 Toyota Corolla with Takata air bags, which were used in Hondas, Volvo, GM, and many other cars. These air bags, have metal around the bag, so when the bag comes out, metal pieces shoot out too. There is a recall and I am waiting for my dealership to get the parts in to fix it. I hope I don't get in an accident :(

I have. When I was 17 or 18 I got into an accident. I rear-ended a lady who didn't realize that green meant "go" at a stoplight. Also, I wasn't really paying attention because my friend and I were jamming out to the Santa Claus remix of the metal Ironman song, but that's beside the point. Green means, "go," lady. -_-
As for the airbags, I was fine, but my friend got some pretty severe burns on her thighs. I still feel guilty about that.
And now, for your listening pleasure... (Don't listen while you're driving.)
I just read a post from the lady you hit. She said she was rear ended by someone who didn't realize that it is illegal to rear-end someone who is not moving while attempting to cross through an intersection. (Lol)
