Why is it that the smaller countries seem to be doing so much more for the environment than big so called developed countries?

    Well industry pretty much defines a "developed" country so of course the more developed the more industry and the more chance the those industries will pollute and degrade the environment even when a large number of them have environmental controls in place.  Many developed before there existed such controls whereas smaller countries have less industry and it is of a more recent vintage so such controls are available if they choose to abide by them.
