It varies by what we need. Today it was just some smokes. I try to buy sales items and stock up for the apocalypse. Today I may go to local produce/deli and get some salami and cheese and grapes.

Right now I am stocking up for the winter so it looks like a lot. After December I don't plan on needing to buy anything but perishable items, and pet food. For me. trying to carry groceries in when there is ice and snow is not wise. (I am a fall risk) This is the first year I've been able to buy ahead and it makes me very happy for sure.
I try to avoid shopping. I go to the scratch n' dent store to get some veggies and they have pie filling at fifty cents a can, or eggnog for a buck a quart, or those cookies I love for 25 cents a pack and I can't pass up a bargain, even though I already have a room full of food.
Srsly, I have fifty pounds of butter in the freezer. It went on sale for a buck a pound nine years ago and I bought a hundred pounds. I saw a news item last week that the nation had reached a new high in butter consumption, 5.6 pounds per year. I have been averaging 5.9 pounds for the last nine years, and I still have enough to go on for another nine years. At a buck a pound. But when frozen veggies go on sale far fifty cents a pound, I have to stop and think "What can I eat right away to make room in the freezer?"
Last year I bought thirty dozen eggs, then I went back and bought twenty dozen, and then another twenty dozen. Eggs keep just fine for a year or so. I like rice pudding, which takes a dozen eggs and a half gallon of milk per batch. I also like waffles, two eggs per batch. So I have no trouble using 70 dozen eggs per year. But I have decided not to buy so many because they dry out.
The big problem is that you can't go to a scratch 'n dent store with a list. You just have to see what they have and decide if you want that. Here is my pantry. You might notice a lot of coffee: all bought at half price.
