Shell Companies are legal entities that have no assets and don't run any business operations. What are they used for?

That's a NO-BRAINER! They are used to disguise ownership from law enforcement or the public. Shell Companies have something to hide. Also Offshore Corporations while legal want anonymity. Why? To disguise ownership from law enforcement or the public. If you have nothing to hide you hide nothing. Period.
