Fortunately, I was not. I came home from work and tried to open my front door. Couldn't get the key in the lock because toothpicks had been stuck in it. I was able to look at my kitchen window (which was not a fire escape window) from the hallway and noticed that the screen was up and the window was open. I called the police who got into my apartment from the bedroom window (a fire escape window nowhere near the kitchen) and the place was tossed. They said that a burglar was committing crimes like this, but I don't know if he was ever caught. Funny thing was that I couldn't get that kitchen window open from the inside, but this nimble thief was able to span from the hallway window to my kitchen window and open it from the outside!
That storm was five inch hail with 75 mile per hour wind. Fortunately we got all of our animals inside then after that we got our cars inside before the storm came.
No, just basic coverage. They cover it because if not then you could get sued and end up with a lean on your home. They even cover any damage your pet does at anothers home but not damage to your home. I was not happy that they paid. The lady was trespassing so I should not have been liable.
Dont feel bad, i burned my first apartment half down when I left an artichoke cooking on the stove top. When I got home from work, the firetrucks were there putting out the fire. I didnt own the apartment, but I was no longer welcome there either. ;+
Yikes, thats what im afraid of. We live in a low lined coastal area where flooding is a real threat. Im not sure if its even available for sale. We dont have it. ;(
Ours were from storm drain backups. They have since rebuilt the street with all new drainage. Many on our street had finished basements (as did we) and lost thousands of dollars.
Yeah, after a hurricane sent a trees toppling over. We had a eight fall with hurricane Irma, but only one hit the house and another took out the fence.
In 2004, we got a few thousand to replace our roof which was damaged be hurricanes Jean and Frances. It wasn't leaking so I just replaced the roof myself a little at a time. It took four years. The last house we bought was flooded when the housekeeper turned on the water to the ice maker before the refrigerator was not hooked up. The insurance company gave us $10,000 because the water crept up the walls and damaged the texture on the dry wall. We just replaced the 4" baseboards with 6" baseboards and saved about $6000 of the settlement for other things.
