It depends on what angle you plan to take with it. There are a bazillion types of creative writing, plus the question of whether you're writing for fun or for profit. If it's for fun, jump in wherever you like. You can't go wrong as long as you're enjoying yourself.

Dont do it. Every author who has ever written about writing say it is wall to wall Hell.

  • Start with the following five rules for at least a month.

Write every day, at least a minimum of 10 - 30 minutes. If you miss, don't beat yourself up. Just start again the next day.

Write without editing - disregard grammar, punctuation, and spelling. It disrupts flow and blocks creativity. (Can always edit later.)

Write what comes up - it doesn't matter what the topic is.

If short of an idea - follow the ten years rule, any material older than ten years. It has passed the filter of time.

Follow the emotions - especially never shy away from anything that feels uncomfortable.

  • Write because you want to.  Write regularly and often.  Leave criticism until after you've finished.

    Enjoy it.

  • If you have to ask that, perhaps you should reconsider. I'm not trying to dissuade you. But if you need encouragement to write, maybe it's not your thing. You should write because you have to. You shouldn't be able to help it.

  • I like your number three. I truly dislike the grammar poleece, they're like a pimple between your ass cheeks, they don't contribute any, but boy are they annoying. Ty. Ms Hart.

I can give you tips on being a writer. It works for any kind of writing.
    1. Write everyday.
    2. Don't worry about spelling or punctuation.
    3. Write until you discover your own "voice". It is your style of writing.
    4. Use props to give you ideas of what to write about.
    5. With creative writing, use photographs that tell stories. They say a photo has a thousand words. So try to write every aspect of what you see and feel. You will discover all the senses show up in photographs.

Only?  That is where it begins if you are lucky.  Some people do not begin to develop this skill until much later.  Take classes, and read books on it and mostly write, write, write.

And compare and get feedback. Like ON HERE.

    Good luck.

  • Why not post a few pieces in the Blogs section?  (They handle around 900 to 1,090 words, plus a picture),

Or, join the Creative Writing Group on this site (same word limit but one can post in segments). It's still small. I posted a piece there and no one has read it yet. But I promise if you post something I'll read it and give you my honest opinion - which will be constructive and practical - but still only an opinion. Would also greatly appreciate the same for mine (from anyone).
