Hitler CAUSED that war. Without it, he'd not gave been a problem - and without reparations from the FIRST World War bleeding Germany white, he probably wouldn't have been elected in the first place.
Of course he caused it, along with the Japanese attacking Pearl Harbor. And your hindsight is 20/20, as it always is. So it had to be fought to get rid of him. Pretty good war, I would say.
If, as Shakespeare opined, "War is hell," perhaps it meant to foreshadow the reality of Hell and induce people actively try to avoid both nouns in that sentence.
