Why is American English considered a language?

Take a language, change the Spelling of a few words, then call it your own language? What’s that all about?

    "Spelling" should be lowercase.

American English isn't considered a language per se.  It's English that's been Americanized.  You don't like it?

  • No I don’t like it. It’s unnecessary. This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at December 10, 2017 5:11 PM MST

Too minor to edit? There is an edit button on your reply that you may use if you care to. You're not obligated to do so if you choose not to, of course.

My English friend taught me that much of American English is more consistent with original English, prior to the Norman conquest.  Here's a wiki article that talks about it, if you're interested.

  • It was done by Noah Webster. After the revolution he decided that a new country needed a new language. So, he changed up the spellings of many words.
