It seems to me that the people you only see at holidays are intent on impressing the family as to how wonderful his or her or their life(s) is going.  Those who stay in touch all the time are actually friends, whereas the out-of-town-holiday-only-relatives are not in the loop of regular conversations and close relationships.  For that reason I am able to tolerate certain behaviors from them that I would not tolerate from my close (relationship)  relatives.  I don't have a huge family so we are all pretty close. I have a cousin who's always intent on impressing the family!

Unfortunately he always fails but at least he can laugh at his own stories!  Everybody else just stares at him.

Just showing up usually does it for me.

Finding my address yet again after I've taken steps to move away each time and without leaving any notice. Grrrrrrrrr.

Ooo sorry, you mean I wasn't supposed to keep giving them your new address?

They gave me a bag of Skittles for it!

Your cousin gives me that really cute puppy eyes look when he asks me for your new address.  I just can't say no!

He's the worst one out of all of them!  What are you doing even talking to him?  Quit doing that!

I just ran into him at the grocery store.

He was buying a big box of Skittles.

Yeah, right. You just "happened" to run into him buying Skittles each and every time I moved away; seven (7) times?

They talk with food in their mouth and when they're not talking, they chomp and slurp.  Yuk.

I know the sound.  I have a chronic chewer with mouth open in my family.

Unfortunately he doesn't seem to be able to hear himself.

My family is repulsive.  My brother, my surviving aunts and uncles and cousins are from another planet.

I don't spend any time with them ever and never want to even think about them.  It is bad.  I forgive them because they are too stupid to even know what they are.

Things like talking too much, or drinking too much would be a welcome fault compared to betrayal, ignorance and jealousy and just bitter resentment anytime  that they do not get their way.  They are people I don't miss and I don't lose any sleep over it.   They are emotionally dysfunctional; this does a lot of damage to everyone.  It is like mingling with the mentally ill.

I wouldn't spit on their graves.
