Discussion»Statements»Rosie's Corner» The Brits are far more intelligent than Americans. They REQUIRE political experience for pols and LIMIIT their power. Imagine THAT?
Britain doesn't have a presidential system so your claim is not comparing like with like.
It may in some circumstances be easier to remove a Prime Minister from office than a president, because the PM is not directly elected. For example, if the Government lost a vote of no-confidence the PM would probably feel compelled to resign. Or else he or she might be subject to a leadership challenge from within her own party. On the other hand, it is noteworthy that there is no 2-term limit, and the boundaries between executive and legislative power are forever shifting just as they are in other advanced democracies.
For your information, there is no formal requirement for someone to have gained a certain number of years legislative or Cabinet experience before becoming Prime Minister, although I think anything less than 5 years as a Member of Parliament would be unusual (Tony Blair became PM in 1997 having first been elected to the House of Commons in 1992).
What people outside the establishment lack in experience, they can make up for in wisdom and character.
Politics consists of philosophical understanding, management, and the black arts of destroying political enemies. The only real function of a politician is to provide philosophical direction. The rest can be delegated.
They only real risk is that they might be naive to just how dirty politics can be. They might get eaten for breakfast by the swamp creatures.
If western civilization can be saved, the renaissance will come from the U.S. and spread outward. No other western nation has what it takes. Weak, boot licking conformists mostly. Compared to Americans, the citizens of other westerner nations have the minds of slaves.
