Methink there is a time and place for everything and for some things hardly ever a place and time. With decent judgment at all time lows it has been easier to tell people not to joke about certain things rather than leave to their discretion when to.

Not everything is stand-up comedy material, but I can see where dark humor can be found in pretty much anything...especially as a coping mechanism for people who regularly deal with horrible things, such as a homicide detective or a coroner.
Yeah, I hear a lot of so called "Comedians" now a days like on those battles where they cut each other down and I think most of it is nasty and inappropriate in my opinion. It just seems like a cop out. They can't come up with any clever or funny material so they just make comments about each other. Like "She's a slut" or "He's a rapist." It's supposed to be funny? Those Comedy Roasts are like that too sometimes and it's gotten to the point where it seems to be just about who can say the most offensive thing, but it's all supposed to be ok because they're "Comedians."
Joking about rape, incest, molestation, Racism, abuse, murder or anything that's just standing up there complaining and being mean or talking about "White people" or other ethnicities or bashing the opposite sex for an hour is all negative to me. I get sick of it.

Well, that's kinda what I mean. Just saying "Ignorant slut" on national television might be shocking enough to make some people laugh, it's just not my thing.
I like average comedians like this guy in this clip. He talks about everyday things and makes fun of situations. He doesn't have to say "Slut" or be too shocking because he's got some genuinely funny material in this clip (at least in my opinion). Thanks. : )

I think potentially anything can be joked about, but there are certain things that I've never found funny. If someone can actually make them funny, then more power to them, but I will believe it when I see it.
I couldn't see making a joke out of the death of a child. I'm sure there are some other things I would never put in the context of a joke myself. But a little dark humor is a way some of us cope. I usually turn the dark humor on myself though.
I'd probably go with time and place, but I'd add person. People can make fun about or against themselves or their own kind, while the same jokes would could be horrendously offensive told by another or someone not of the same kind.
