Yes.  I was very fortunate to be in a hospital when it was discovered that my potassium had bottomed out.

I know personally how dangerous this can be. I was not in the hospital when it occurred but it sent me to the hospital twice. Neither time was a very pleasant experience.

I had just been home a couple of days after knee replacement surgery.  I kept fainting so I ended up in the hospital.  My BP dropped so low after the surgery they pumped tons of fluid.  This is how the potassium got depleted.  They should always keep check on that.  I think someone failed to place that order.  I never go to a hospital without feeling like they almost kill me before I can get out of there.

Do you know what caused yours to get dangerously low?

I still eat bananas and potatoes even though I know that's not enough potassium to help a real problem, but it's a good excuse to eat a couple of my faves.  :)

I have had trouble with potassium being low since I was 18 but the two times I am referring to it being so bad, I suppose it was due to vomiting and/or diarrhea. I really do not have a clear recollection of what was happening for a couple days prior to each episode.

Yes, my brother's was low when he got admitted with food poisoning.  He was severely dehydrated and his potassium was dangerously low.

My tonsils just about killed me in 1979 - they were rotting in my throat.

Then more recently I had thrombosed haemorrhoids removed - could have caused septicaemia.
