    I would try not to be... I understand and accept it happens but I do try hard to choose carefully... I think, being a mere mortal, I would probably feel a bit hurt at least

    Probably, but for things like slippers where I'm not sure if it's the right size, I always include a gift receipt with them anyway.

    I wouldn't wait for them to ask.  I would automatically include the gift receipt in the box with the gift.
